Top ten best public secondary schools in Siaya County

Siaya County is one of the 47 counties in Kenya. It lies within the arid and semi – arid climate. There are six constituencies in Siaya County namely; Gem, Ugenya, Bondo, Rarienda, Ugunja, and Alego/Usonga. Most of the people who live within Siaya County are farmers. The county boasts some of the top high schools in terms of performance and infrastructure. Today we will look at the best public secondary schools in the county.

Maranda High School

Maranda High School is a center of academic excellence not only in Siaya County but in the country at large. The secondary education institution is approximately 5 kilometers from Bondo and has a consistently long-time record in Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education. The high school ranks consistently in the top 10 schools in Kenya in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education examinations, coming in 4th in 2010, 1st in 2011, 7th in 2012 and 2nd in 2014. Ng’iya Girls’ High School

Ng’iya Girls’ High School is a religious organization sponsored mixed day school located in Mur Ngiya Sub location, in Siaya County. The institution started as a primary school on 6th October 1923 and later became a Teachers’ Training College (TTC) in 1953. The School then became a girls` secondary school in 1962 and admitted the first form one students who sat for their “O” level exams in 1965. Barding High School

The school, which derives its name from the dusty Barding village, was established in 1974 by a couple – Beech and Carol – who were Catholic missionaries behind St Joseph’s Catholic Church in the area in the early 1950s. It was more of a harambee school, which was established as an intermediate to admit pupils from Barding Primary School with the Kenyan government taking over management from the missionaries in 1974. Ambira High School

Ambira High School is a public boys’ secondary school located in Ugenya location, Siaya County under Principal Thomas K’Ogola. Mwer Boys’ High School is a government boys’ day and boarding school located in Sigoma / Uranga Sub location, South West Alego Location, Uranga Division, Alego Usonga Constituency in Siaya County.The school sits on 6.2 Ha of land and was started as a harambee school with two streams in 1968.The government took it over in 1984. Rang’ala Girls High School

The Mill-Hill Missionaries, an international fellowship of Catholic missionaries, founded St. Francis Rang’ala Girls High School in 1932 in Ugenya, Siaya County. The school was however transformed into a women teachers training college — which was later moved to Asumbi in Homa Bay County. It was not until 1961 that Rang’ala Girls School made a comeback, admitting its first batch of students. Today the school has a population of more than 2,000 students.
