Kenya: Covid-19 cases soar to 535 after 45 more test positive

Confirmed covid-19 case in Kenya soars to 535 after 45 more patients test positive to coronavirus.

This is the highest number of covid-19 cases confirmed so far in a single day since the first case was announced on March 13, 2020.

A total of 1,077 tests were done in the last 24 hours

Of the 45 new cases confirmed today, 29 are from Nairobi (all Nairobi cases from Eastleigh), 11 from Mombasa, 5 from Wajir and one a foreign national from Somalia.

Hotspots

This raises the total number of cases in Eastleigh to 63, making it a hot spot in Nairobi.

Health CS also said community spread is now taking roots in three key ares.

“There is community spread in three key areas: Eastleigh, Kawangware, and Old Town Mombasa. We need to take serious action in those areas,” added the CS.

Recoveries

On a positive note the Health CS Mutahi Kagwe also confirmed nine more recoveries bringing total number of discharged to 182.

“As of today 9 new discharges have been recorded, bringing the total number of recoveries to 182,” said Mutahi Kagwe.

Stigma

The CS advised people not to discriminate against persons but rather treat them with alot of understanding, empathy and sympathy.

“We should have a lot of understanding, empathy and sympathy so that we don’t discriminate against parts of our society,” stated the CS.
