DECTE Certificate Upgrade To Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE)

Recently the Ministry of Education launched an UPGRADE PROGRAMME from ECDE certificate to DECTE, targeting those teachers who are currently in service, in response to the phase-out of all Teachers certificate courses (ECDE and P1).

The upgrade program is meant to allow the candidates to enrol in all professional courses that incorporate CBC principles.

Admission Requirements

KNEC ECDE Certificate

Duration of training

Five (5) school terms: Four (4) terms for course work and one (1) term for practicum.

The Diploma in Early Childhood Teacher Education (DECTE) shall be graded as stipulated by KNEC

Mode of Study

  • Blended mode with some face to face sessions during weekends and School holidays
  • School-Based (Distance Learning) Sessions
