TSC Directs Teachers To Register For CBL As Outcome Remains Uncertain

Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has set the deadline for registration of teachers for Community Based Learning(CBL) Programme to Monday 24th August, 2020.

Through a text message send to teachers on Sunday evening, the commission indicated that teachers should register at the Sub-County and Zonal offices today(Monday 24th, 2020), before 5pm.

The ministry of health in collaboration with that of interior and coordination of national government through Nyumba Kumi initiative, will identify teaching venues.

“The deadline for registration in the ongoing mapping of teachers at the Sub-County and Zonal offices is tomorrow Monday 24th August, 2020 at 5pm. This will enable allocation of teaching venues within your Nyumba Kumi area,” read part of the message from TSC.

Although the repercussions of teachers who will abscond the Community Based Learning(CBL) Programme remain uncertain, the government has assured teachers of their pay even if the fail to take part in this noble programme.

This was made clear yesterday by the education cabinet secretary professor Magoha, who clarified that the programme is not tied to the payment of their salaries.

“Teachers’ participation in the programme is not tied to the payment of their monthly salaries,” Magoha said, clearing fears of holding the salaries of teachers who would not take part in the exercise.

According the guidelines that were developed by the Ministry of Education, Kenya National Examinations Council (Knec), TSC and the Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development (KICD), learning activities in primary schools will be based on life skills and values, health and fitness educational activities and environment and sanitation.

For secondary school students, learning activities will be based on citizenship, environment, creative arts, languages, games and fitness, life skills, home science, mathematics and financial literacy.

The ultimate goal of community based learning is that learners should be able to cope with the social and emotional effects of Covid-19 and identify the right information about the disease.
