The Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has released the requirements and timelines for the awards for the 2019 teacher and principal of the year.
These are annual awards where the Commission seeks to reward outstanding principals and teachers in the Principal of the Year Award (POYA) and Teacher of the year award (TOYA) respectively.
Criteria and Requirements
Principal of the year Award – POYA
- Must be a TSC employed principal fully paid up members of KESSHA
- Â Served as a principal for at least three years
- Mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results
- Â Must have submitted books of accounts for the year 2018 for audit
- Principals with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
Teacher of the Year Award – TOYA
- Â Must be a TSC employed teacher
- Â Must have taught for at least 3 years under TSC
- Have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results in one of the teaching subjects
- Â Teachers with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
Inovative Teacher of the Year Award – iTOYA
- Â Must be a TSC employed teacher
- Â Must have taught for at least three years under TSC
- Â Should have a subject mean score of 5.0 (C-) and above in 2018 KCSE results one of the teaching subjects
- Â Its open to teachers in all subjects
- Teachers with Special Needs are encouraged to participate
Time frame
- Schools to come up with their TOYA/iTOYA by 1st March 2019
- Â Sub-counties to come up with their iTOYA/TOYA/POYA by 16th March 2019
- Â Counties to come up with their iTOYA/TOYA/POYA by 8th April 2019
- Â Regions should have come up with their iTOYA/TOYA /POYA by 10th May 2019
Verification
- Documents to be verified at each level and certificate of verification be submitted to the next level
- Â The Commission will carry out school visit to assess, verify and authenticate the evidence presented by the regional winners
-  Regional winners’ profiles to be submitted to KESSHA secretariat and TSC headquarters by 10th May 2019 for publication
