MoE directs TSC to deploy specialized trained teachers to head Special Schools

The main role of Ministry of Education is to provide quality education and training
that empowers learners with competencies they require to participate in relevant
sectors of national development. In order to discharge this role effectively, the ministry must ensure head teachers are deployed appropriately to head special schools. This therefore means that heads of special need schools must be equipped with relevant skills through training.
The considerable specialized training includes –

  • Intellectual challenges,
  • Visual Impairment,
  • Hearing Impairment,
  • Physical impairment, among other defined

educational needs.

Data contained by the Ministry of education has revealed that there are cases of teachers whose deployment to head special schools did not consider their specialized training and that such
practice had occasionally led to cases of mismanagement, compromised decision
making and ineffective delivery of services to learners with disabilities and special
needs.

Ministry has requested sub county to liaise with the TSC and compile details of all
heads of special primary and secondary schools and submit the
report in soft and hard copies to reach the undersigned on or before Wednesday
26th September, 2018.

  • Physical location of school-county and sub county
  • Name of the special school
  • Type of school-Day/boarding
  • Category of disability (VI, DB, HI IC PI)
