KDF Announces 2021 Mass Recruitment of Cadets, Specialists Officers; Requirements

The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) is pleased to announce to the public the recruitment of General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets, GeneralĀ  Service Officer (GSO) Cadets (Graduate degree holders), SpecialistĀ  Officers, General Duty Recruits, Tradesmen/women and DefenceĀ  Forces Constables, which is scheduled to take place in the month ofĀ  November 2021.

Interested candidates for Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/womenĀ  are advised to apply by logging in https://applications.mod.go.ke. The applications MUST be submitted online not later thanĀ  14 November 2021.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified throughĀ  the print media between 21st to 27th November 2021.

The prospective candidates willing to join the Kenya Defence ForcesĀ  MUST meet the following conditions and academic qualifications:

a. General Conditions Ā 

  • Be a Kenyan citizen.
  • Be in possession of a valid Kenyan National Identity CardĀ  (ID). Additionally; four (4) copies of National Identity CardĀ  and PIN Certificate will be required.
  • Be within the following age brackets:
  1. Between 18 and 26 years for GSO Cadets and GeneralĀ  Duty Recruits.Ā 
  2. Not above 30 years of age for Specialist Officers andĀ  Tradesmen/women with Certificate/Government TradeĀ  Test.Ā 
  3. Not above 39 years of age for Chaplains/Imams andĀ  Medical Consultants.Ā 
  • Have no criminal record.Ā 
  • Candidates must meet the following minimum physicalĀ  requirements:Ā 
  1. Minimum Height:Ā Ā 

(1) Men 1.60m (5ft 3in).Ā 

(2) Women 1.52m (5ft).Ā 

  1. Minimum Weight:Ā 

(1) Men 54.55 Kg (120 lb).Ā 

(2) Women 50.00 Kg (110 lb).

  • Body Mass Index (BMI) MUST be below 30.
  • Female candidates must NOT be pregnant at the time of recruitment and during the entire duration of training.
  • Medical. Candidates must be medically fit and Skin must beĀ  healthy devoid of large or deep scars and tattoos.
  • Ā Specialist Officers and Tradesmen/women should have aĀ  minimum of two (2) years practising experience in theirĀ  field of specialisation from the date of registration with theĀ  relevant regulatory/statutory body in Kenya.

Minimum Academic QualificationsĀ 

(1) General Service Officer (GSO) Cadets. Must hold aĀ  minimum mean grade of B (Plain) in KCSE with C+ (Plus) inĀ  English, Mathematics and one (1) Science subject. TheĀ  training period for this category will cover three (3) yearsĀ  leading to a BSc degree in Military Science and SecurityĀ  Studies upon completion.Ā 

(2) General Service Officer (GSO) Cadet – Graduate Degree Ā Holders. Must hold the minimum requirement to qualify asĀ  GSO Cadet in Para 3.b.(1) above and be a degree holderĀ  from a recognized University/Institution in any of theĀ  disciplines listed at Para 4.b. The training period for thisĀ  category will be twelve (12) months.Ā 

(3) Specialist Officers.

Must hold the minimum requirement toĀ  qualify as GSO Cadet in Para 3.b.(1) above except forĀ  Chaplains/Imams who must hold a minimum mean grade ofĀ  C+ (Plus) in KCSE. Must be a degree holder from aĀ  recognized University/Institution and be registered with aĀ  regulatory/statutory body where applicable in any of theĀ  disciplines listed at Para 4.c. The training period forĀ  Specialist Officers will be six (6) months.Ā 

(4) Servicemen/women (General Duty) Recruits.

Must hold aĀ  minimum mean grade of D (plain) in KCSE.Ā 

(5) Tradesmen/women. Prospective candidates willing toĀ  apply must satisfy the conditions and requirements givenĀ  below:Ā 

(a) Diploma. A minimum mean grade of C (Plain) in KCSE,Ā  a relevant Diploma or above from a recognizedĀ  institution and be registered with the relevantĀ  statutory bodies, where applicable.Ā 

(b) Certificate. A minimum mean grade of D+ (Plus) inĀ  KCSE and either a relevant Certificate with Government Trade Test Grade II or Craft II from a recognized institution.Ā 

(c) National Youth Service (NYS) trained Technicians or Artisans who meet the above requirements are encouraged to apply.Ā 

(6) ConstablesĀ 

(a) Be a retired Kenya Defence Forces Service Member orĀ  a retired National Youth Serviceman/woman.Ā Ā 

(b) Be between the ages of 30 and 55 years old for retiredĀ  KDF and between 35 and 45 years old for retired NYS.Ā 

(c) Possess a Discharge Certificate with a minimum ratingĀ  of ā€œVery Goodā€ in conduct.Ā 

(d) Must have served for nine (9) years Colour Service andĀ  retired honourably from KDF.Ā
