It is now official that Teachers Service Commission, TSC, has extended the contract for the serving intern teachers for a year.
In a memo seen by this writer, the teachers employer indicated that serving intern teachers that did not secure permanent employment will now serve for one year.
“The Commission has authorized the extension of contracts for the serving teacher interns. This affects the teacher interns who were not recruited in the recently concluded recruitment process for regular teachers,” read a TSC memo.

TSC said extension is owing to the fact that the internship programme was disrupted by Covid-19 pandemic which led to closure of schools in March 2020.
This comes barely fortnight ago after TSC barred the current serving intern teachers from applying for the 6,674 advertised internship posts in December. This left serving interns with several unanswered questions bearing in mind that their current contract was to elapse by the end of this month(December, 2020).
Enhanced Perks
However TSC renewed their contract for another year starting January 4th next year. The teachers will continue to work in their current station.
