How to acquire a blog in Kenya and start earning 2020

With the growing digital industry, many people have opted to start a blog. Blogging is the simplest and easiest way of communicating and passing ideas to online users.

If you think of starting a blog in Kenya, these are the simple steps to follow:

1. Choose your platform

This is the first step to take when you want to start blogging. There are many platforms for blogging but the common ones are Blogger and WordPress.

Tumblr, Drupal, BlogSmith, TypePad are among other platforms that can be used.

2. Choose a domain name

The domain name is basically your URL. For example for this blog, jambonews.co.ke is the domain name. A domain name should be as short as possible. Its also of great importance to find a domain that is easy to remember.

3. Choose self hosting or free way

After acquiring a domain name the next thing is to chose whether to pay for hosting services or go the free way.

If you want to take blogging seriously, its strongly recommended to pay for hosting services. Using a free platform will deny you of having a custom domain name as well as limit the files you can upload in terms of videos and pictures.

Therefore self-hosting is the best option since it will give you more control over your blog and there is no limit to how much media content you can upload.

4. Designing your blog

This is giving your blog an outlook. It is important to design your blog in such a manner that it is attractive and easier to navigate. Most importantly, make your blog to be user friendly, since nobody will come back if its annoying.

5. Work on content

Now that the blog is set, what remains is coming up with content that will keep your readers glued to your site. Remember that no matter how good your blog has been designed, what will keep people is attracting content.

After settling on the type of content, don’t depend only on the organic search, you have to promote it on social media platforms like Facebook, twitter, WhatsApp, Instagram, telegram among others.
