CS Magoha Hits Back At WHO Over Calls For Haste In School Reopening

Education Cabinet Secretary Prof. Magoha has criticised the move by World Health Organization to direct countries to expedite school reopening plan.

Last week WHO, urged countries to move with speed and open schools citing that kids were going through hell at home and that opening schools could alleviate the pain and psychological torture they are experiencing.

“We must not be blind-sided by our efforts to contain Covid-19 and end up with a lost generation. Just as countries are opening businesses safely, we can reopen schools,” WHO Regional Director for Africa Dr Matshidiso Moeti stated last week.

While hitting back at WHO, Prof. Magoha described the directive from WHO as an attempt to turn Africans into guinea pigs.

The CS stated the head of state has the interest of children at heart than both WHO and UNICEF.

“Do you think it is our president and his government who have the interests of our children at heart or is it WHO and UNICEF?

“The same WHO is double-speaking, I am Magoha, son of Magoha and you can take it to the bank. They have given us protocols which apply to everybody else,” stated Magoha.

The CS has maintained that schools will remain asserting that “the decision to reopen them lies with President Uhuru. He is the one to decide whether he can take the risk.”
