Best and Top Universities & Colleges in South Sudan Accredited by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, South Sudan 2022

Despite South Sudan being the youngest country in Africa,it has institutions of higher learning that promotes the country’s economic growth and peaceful coexistence. There are 13 recognized universities in South Sudan. these universities have at least met the following conditions:

  • Being chartered, licensed and/or accredited by the appropriate South Sudanese higher education-related organization
  • Offering at least four-year undergraduate degrees (bachelor degrees) or postgraduate degrees (master or doctoral degrees)
  • Delivering courses predominantly in a traditional, face-to-face, non-distance education format.

Here is alist of 13 recognized universities in South Sudan

All these universities are officially accredited and/or recognized by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, South Sudan.

1.University of Juba

University of Juba located in suburban city of juba was founded in 1975. It has an enrollment range of between 10,000-14,999 University of Juba (JU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees, doctorate degrees in several areas of study.

2. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology

This university was founded in 2006 and it is located in the small city of Bor. John Garang Memorial University of Science and Technology (JGMU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study. It has an enrollment range 500-999.

3.The Bridge University

The university was founded in 2009 and its located in suburban city of Juba. The Bridge University (TBU) offers courses and programs leading to officialy recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees in several areas of study.It has an enrollnment range of between 500-999.

4. The Catholic University of South Sudan

Founded in 2008, The Catholic University of South Sudan is a private higher education institution located in the small city of Juba. The Catholic University of South Sudan (CAUSS) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

5. University of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal

Established in 2011, University of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the large town of Aweil, Northern Bahr el Ghazal. University of Northern Bahr El-Ghazal (UNBEG) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

6. Akobo Heritage and Memorial University

Akobo Heritage and Memorial University is a private higher education institution located in the large town of Akobo, Jonglei. It offers courses and programs leading to officialy recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

7. Yei Agricultural and Mechanical University

Established in 2011, Yei Agricultural and Mechanical University is a private higher education institution located in the large town of Yei, Central Equatoria. It offers courses and programs leading to officialy recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

8. St Mary’s College

Founded in 2009, St Mary’s College is a private higher education institution located in the small city of Juba , Central Equatoria. St Mary’s College (SMUJ) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as bachelor degrees in several areas of study.

9. Rumbek University

Founded in 2010, Rumbek University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large town of Rumbek, Lakes. Rumbek University (RU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

10. University of Western Equatoria

Established in 2011, University of Western Equatoria is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the medium-sized town of Yambio, Western Equatoria. University of Western Equatoria (UWE) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

11. University of Torit

University of Torit is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the medium-sized town of Torit, Eastern Equatoria. University of Torit offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

12. Upper Nile University

Established in 1994, Upper Nile University is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the urban setting of the large city of Khartoum. Upper Nile University (UNU) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees in several areas of study.

13. University of Bahr El-Ghazal

Founded in 1993, University of Bahr El-Ghazal is a non-profit public higher education institution located in the suburban setting of the large town of Wau, West Bahr al Ghazal.Its enrollment range is 2,000-2,999 students. University of Bahr El-Ghazal (UBG) offers courses and programs leading to officially recognized higher education degrees such as pre-bachelor degrees (i.e. certificates, diplomas, associate or foundation degrees), bachelor degrees, master degrees in several areas of study.
