Teacher In Nandi Attacked and Injured Badly By Students

Teachers at Maraba Secondary School in Nandi County on Tuesday protested after one of their colleagues was attacked by a student.

While marching to the Aldai Sub-county education offices they cited insecurity at their workplace.

The teacher was beaten and badly injured at the school last week while on his way home.

Led by officials from the Kenya Union of Post-Primary Education Teachers (KUPPET) in the county, the teachers left the school on Tuesday, demanding punishment of the students responsible for the act.

“The teacher was on his way home after work when students attacked him with blunt objects,” Paul Rotich, KUPPET’s county secretary said.

According to the teachers, this is not the first time such an incident has taken place since a female teacher was also beaten by students last year.

“We are going to use all means to ensure that justice is served for Mwalimu. We are no lesser beings,” said Salim Bhakit, the union’s treasurer.
