Targeted Testing Starts At Maranda High After Student Test Positive For Covid-19

The Ministry of Health is racing against time to carry out targeted testing at Maranda High School, Siaya County, after one student tested positive for coronavirus.

Kennedy Orwenjo who is the County Director of Public Health, confirmed that one covid-19  case was confirmed in the school last weekend.

The student who tested positive is put under isolation at the Bondo Sub-County Hospital.

Mr. Orwenjo told radio Ramogi that not all students in school will be tested stating that Siaya county do not have the capacity to test all the over 600 candidates currently in the school. He explained that the targeted testing kicked off of Tuesday and results for samples are yet to be received.

The county director further brushed off claims that one teacher from Maranda has been put on isolation.

Reports of covid-19 case is Maranda high school coms against the backdrop of raising number of the virus in the country.

Earlier this week, principal of Tononoka Secondary school, Khamis Mohammed, allegedly succumbed to virus. The late Khamis met his death barely a week after two schools Star of the Sea and Tononoka were closed owing to reports of Covid-19 cases in the two schools.
