Schools To Get Government Capitation Today Says Magoha

The government has released  Sh19 billion capitation funds to schools for term two 2022,  Education Cabinet secretary professor Magoha announces.

Speaking at Wagwer Secondary School in Siaya, Magoha noted that both primary and secondary schools will receive the funds on Monday 25th July, 2022.

Magoha heaped praises on heads of schools who managed to retain learners despite tough economic times. He claimed a number of teachers had managed to take care of learners despite the tough times and have managed to retain learners in schools.

“In particular day and boarding schools, I want to commend principals for retaining children in schools, even as we struggle. I want them to remember the struggle we have here is not Kenyan but global,” he said.

Magoha cautioned some school heads in day schools who send learners home to collect money for motivation and food despite government warning. He described the move as criminal and said stern action would be taken against them.

The Government of Kenya has continued to offer free day schooling and the fees structure for day schools. Government subsidy (Capitation) to schools to actualize Free Day Secondary Education (FDSE) will be KES. 22,244.00 annually per learner
