New curriculum to be rolled out next year 2019 and not 2020 says Education CS

Education CS Amina has announced that new competence based curriculum will be rolled out next year 2019 and not 2020 as agreed last week by education stake holders According to the CS, the new curriculum will be rolled out next year in grade one to three.

The 2-6-3-3-3 curriculum that is set to replace the cutrent 8:4:4 will emphasis on continuous assessment tests (CATs) over one-off examinations, will now be rolled out in January next year (2019) covering nursery, Standard One, Two and Three. The system is then expected to be rolled out in Standard Four to Six and in 2020.

In 2021, the system will be extended to Form Two only and in the following year it will cover Form Three. In 2023, it will be rolled out in Form Four.

The move is likely to calm down angry parents and publishers who had made heavy investments in the programme.
