On May 2012, the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology launched its School of Open, Distance and eLearning [SODeL]. It was born from the Continuing Education Program [CEP], which had started a program for self- sponsored students who had not received admission by the Kenya Joint Admissions Board in 1996. Therefore, SODeL is a combination of CEP and the JKUAT’s basic distance learning systems since from CEP came distance learning and then SODeL.
SODeL’s vision; To be a leading and innovative provider of Open, distance and eLearning education nationally and globally.
Therefore, SODeL utilizes the dynamic field of IT to provide a learning opportunity for all persons that want to improve their education. The program provides a solution by giving a cheaper alternative and by increasing the learner scope. This has come in handy especially for people who want to further their studies but have busy schedules that cannot allow them to go to a physical class.
