African Nazarene University is an accredited private Christian University sponsored by the Church of Nazarene International. It is fully accredited by the commission for University Education and the International Board of Education. The university was established in the year 1994 and it is located in Ongata Rongai, Kenya. The current dean of studies is Mr. Victor Boiyo and the vice chancellor is Dr. Stanley Bhebhe.

According to Paul Kahenya who is the director, the African Nazarene University Institute of Open and Distance Learning was established in the year 2011 to aim for the development of institutional policies and strategies for promoting the innovative use of information and communication technologies to benefit learning, teaching and reseach activities at the university.
The good thing about the institution is that it is located on the top floor of Helstrom building at Ongata Rongai campus. The institute has a results- oriented core staff and an ambient open plan work environment.The members of staff have also been trained on the principle of instructional design for various delivery modes for open and distance learning modes aimed at developing learning approaches that would guarantee real time reach to students in multiple locations in a cost- effective way.
