Kisumu Day High School to host 2019 Nyanza region Workshop for games teachers

The Nyanza Region Secondary Schools Sports Association, will hold a three-day workshop for all games teachers in the region ahead of the 2019 high schools’ competitions.

Contrary to previous years where the counties held separate clinics for referees, this year the workshop will be held at Kisumu Day Secondary starting 31st January, 2019 to 2nd February, 2019.

Through a circular dated 21st January, 2019 the Regional Coordinator of Education, Richard Chekawai, said the workshop will facilitate teachers on new changes.

“This is to facilitate the teachers on the new changes in all activities as per the requirements of the affiliating bodies and KSSSA (Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association),” says Chekawai.

The regional coordinator, further urged school heads to facilitate teachers to see to it that the whole exercise is successful.

“Heads of schools are kindly requested to facilitate teachers of games in terms of transport, Subsistence and accommodation (and facilitation fee) to enable them attend the training and County officials to be facilitated by their Counties,” added Chepkawai

The circular sent to all secondary schools within Nyanza region indicates that the following areas will be covered:

  •  Interpretation of the rules of the game
  • Officiating
  • Coaching
  •  Refereeing
  • Match management

Teachers shall be trained in the following areas:

  • Hockey
  • Basketball
  • Handball
  •  Athletics
  • Rugby
  • Volleyball
  • Netball
  •  Soccer
  • Swimming
  • Racquet games(table tennis, Badminton and Lawn tennis)

Basketball, Hockey, Rugby 15’s, Rugby 7’s, Handball, Athletics and Cross Country will feature in term one games.

Shimo La Tewa High school, in Mombasa county, will host this year’s National Games in Term one.
