The Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development has organized a five-day editing workshop for the adapted Grade 7 Textbooks for Special Needs Education (SNE) learners.
The Special Programmes Department headed by Mrs. Grace Ngugi Maina is leading the exercise, which started on 18th September 2022, at Masada Hotel. The team, guided by KICD Subject Secretaries is combing through text in different learning areas to ensure that the final textbooks meet the required quality as per the international standards.
Panelists are drawn from Teacher Training Colleges, Special Needs Secondary and Primary Schools, the Ministry of Education, Kenya Institute for Special Education (KISE), Curriculum Support Officers, and other organizations dealing with people with special needs.
The activity, which is being funded by SEQIP is coordinated by Mr. Elmad Songe head of Special Needs Education, and SEQIP Focal Person Mr. Joshua Kilundo. Come january 2023, the CBC Pioneer learners will transit to Junior Secondary School (JSS).
Special Needs learners will by then have the adapted textbooks ready for use. This is a milestone by the government in ensuring every learner is catered for, including those with special needs.
