Implementation of new CBC kicks off; learning areas and Lessons per week

The ministry of education has given out guidelines on how the new curriculum is set to be implemented starting 3rd Thursday, 2019.

Through a circular sent to Regional Coordinators of education, county and Sub- county Directors of Education the education PS has detailedly revealed how the new curriculum will be implemented.

Last year 2018, Ministry of Education conducted the National Pilot on Competency Based Curriculum in all the schools in the country in pre-primary 1 and 2, as well as in Grades 1 and 2. This year the ministry will kick of the implementation of the CBC.

The CBC will be rolled out in all schools in Pre-Primary 1 and 2 as well as in Grades 1,2 and 3  immediately the schools reopen for new term 3rd January 2019.

According to Dr. Kipsang, the Ministry will distribute CBC materials (textbooks) in all Public primary schools starting January 2019.

All schools are expected to allow the smooth roll out of the new CBC by preparing the time table as follows;

  • Each lesson shall be 30 minutes,
  • There shall be five (5) lessons in a day in Pre-Primary and seven (7) for Grade 1 to 3.
  • distribution of lessons in each learning area are as follows:
