This is a girls only national public boarding secondary school located in Vihiga county, Kenya. The school came into life first as Kima Girls School in 1930 when the Ludwigs, who were Americans, decided to set up the school under the Church of God management so as to teach Christian girls how to live together. At this time, other subjects such as English, arithmetic, needle work, religious instructions and vernacular were taught as well. With time, the performance of the school was recognized far and wide hence making the school to be highly valued for wives.

By 1944, the school was a full primary and intermediate school. At this time, there was a boys’ school adjacent to the school and the teachers used to be shared between them. They did their first KAPE exam in 1945 after which the boys were shifted to the current Ingotse Boys High School. Bunyore Girls’ became a secondary school in 1964, admitting their first form one students. The students sat their first form four exams in 1967 where 21 girls sat for it and had a 90.5% pass level. The school has continued to show great performance with great principals from Mrs. Lafont to Miss. Bannister to Mrs. Esther Muhanji to Mrs. Rose Waswa Shitsama in 2008. The school became a national school in 2011.

Neighbouring schools include Kima Primary School, Emmunwa Primary, Hobunaka Secondary, ACK Emutsa Primary school and Hobunaka primary school.

Bunyore Girls High School KCSE performance; The school produced the second best overall female student in the country in 2007. It had a mean score of 6.012 in 1989, 7.53 in 1993, 8.176 in 2000, 8.703 in 2004, 9.101 in 2006, 9.6844 in 2014 and 8.01 in 2018. The school produced the only A in the county in 2016.

Bunyore Girls High School Form one selection; The school admits approximately 300 students each year based on academic merit and quota as per the Kenyan standard education policy.There is bias to students from public schools as required by the current education policy. The students are also admitted on a need- blind basis.
