TSC urge teachers to contribute to COVID-19 Fund via M-pesa Paybill or Payroll deduction

Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has urged teachers to make voluntary contribution to help in the fight against the coronavirius pandemic that has devastatingly affected most aspects of human life.

Through mobile short message service (SMS) sent to teachers, the commission has noted that the voluntary contribution can be sent via M-pesa paybill number.

“Dear, TSC is playing its part in the fight against Corona Virus. You can join us by making a voluntary contribution to Pay Bill No 625625 Account No 01001005707400,” read part of the message.

The teacher employer further indicated that contribution can be made through payroll.

“If you wish to contribute through the payroll visit www.tsc.go.ke for details. The monies will be channeled to the Kenya COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund,” read the message.

Voluntary pay cut

Following declaration of the COVID19 as a global pandemic, His Excellency the President of the Republic of Kenya issued several policy directives to cushion Kenyans against its spread, effect and impacts. 

The directives included the voluntary salary cuts for senior Government.

The voluntary salary cuts was to be effected for an initial period of three (3) months with effect from April, 2020. However, this is subject to review based on the advice of the Ministry of Health on the status of COVID19 pandemic in our great nation.

Procedure for effecting the Voluntary Salary Cut in the Payroll. 

 The procedure shall be as follows: 

  • That the percentage deduction shall be effected on the net package arising immediately after statutory deductions (PAYE, NHIF and Pension contributions, where applicable);
  • The payroll code 959 (Emergence Response Fund) be utilized to effect the voluntary salary pay cut;
  • The deductions be remitted to:

i. Bank Account No.: 1000201924 Central Bank of Kenya

 ii. Account Name: COVID19 Emergency Response Fund 

Public servants

Public service workers who wish to contribute to covid-19 can do so by writing a letter to the head of civil service. The letter should include the percentage of salary to be deducted and the effective date.

Here is the format of the letter

In line with the Circular Letter No............ dated ..……… from the Head of Public Service, I hereby grant the Authorised Officer authority to deduct ............%, which is equivalent to Kenya Shillings.….of my salary towards the COVID 19 Pandemic with effect from…..
