TSC Outlines Duties Teachers Will Be Performing In Preparations For Reopening

Teachers Service Commission has outlined roles teachers will be performing after it directed all primary and secondary school tutors to report to school by Monday 28th September, 2020.

The directive was made yesterday by TSC boss Dr. Nancy Macharia following extensive consultations with all Stakeholders in the Education Sector at Kenya Institute of Curriculum Development(KICD).

In a circular dated September 21st, 2020, and signed by TSC CEO Dr. Nancy Macharia, the teacher employer has directed all regional, county and sub county bosses to supervise activities that will be performed by teachers in order to prepare for the eventual re-opening of schools.

“You are expected to disseminate the contents of this Circular to all Teachers working under your respective Regions, Counties and Sub Counties. You are further directed to coordinate, monitor and supervise this exercise and ensure that Teachers prepare adequately for resumption of learning,” directed Dr. Nancy Macharia. 

All the Teachers are directed to take part in making adequate arrangements for re opening of schools, that is likely to take place not later than October 19, 2020.

Teachers will be expected to work with relevant Stakeholders to ensure thorough cleaning of classrooms,  offices, dormitories, all school amenities and ensure that the same are in habitable conditions for Learners.

The commission has also directed teachers to develop innovative strategies designed to offer psychosocial support  to Learners, Parents and other Stakeholders. 

Tutors will also prepare curriculum delivery materials including timetables, schemes of  work, lesson plans and related activities for curriculum implementation and delivery.

Dr. Nancy Macharia also directed teachers to develop innovative strategies and mechanisms for curriculum  implementation while upholding the Ministry of Health Guidelines and protocols for containment of the spread of COVID19 including social distancing, regular handwashing, use of sanitizer and wearing of face masks. 

Furthermore, the commission instructed teachers to come up with mechanism of proper sharing of duties and responsibilities among them while making deliberate efforts to protect Staff with underlying conditions.
