School Heads Fingered For Delayed Payment Of BOM Teachers

Schools heads have been accused for the delayed payment of salaries of BoM teachers. Zack Kinuthia who is Chief Administrative Secretary in the ministry of education, pointed finger at heads of schools for providing inaccurate data of BoM teachers.

CAS Kinuthia explained that the delay to pay the BoM teachers was occasioned by inaccurate data submitted by school heads, which could have seen the government lose Sh2.5 billion.

Speaking while assessing status of covid-19 preparedness at Kandara Technical Vocational Centre in Murang’a county on Wednesday, CAS Kinuthia said school heads had submitted a list of 106,000 teachers, which means the government could have ended up paying at least 63,000 more teachers un-procedurally.

Only 43,000 BoM teachers will be eligible for payment.

However, Zack Kinuthia has assured teachers employed by Board of Management that they will receive their salaries by tomorrow(Friday).

He said, “This is a promise from the office of the CAS through consultation that the money is safely on transit to their bank accounts. It will happen whether it is today, tomorrow or Friday.” Each teacher will get Sh40,000.

He con-firmed the funds are already being channeled of the teachers’ respective bank accounts.

Last Month, Dr. Belio Kipsang reaffirmed the government was committed to support teachers employed by Board of Management (BoM) as 15th March 2020.

He said, “the Ministry of education will support teachers employed by Board of Management (BoM) as 15th March 2020 for six(6) months only starting July to December 2020 by paying them Kshs 10,000 per month.”
