KMTC Kapenguria Campus Background Information & Location
Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC) – Kapenguria campus is one of the 71 constituent campuses of KMTC. It was established in the early 1980s to empower the county with health care personnel. The campus is situated on a 12 acre piece of land donated by the Kapenguria County Referral Hospital in West Pokot county, Kenya. The campus is located near the West Pokot County Headquarters adjacent to the Kapenguria County Referral Hospital that serves as its main clinical experience site.
The institution admitted its first batch of Kenya Enrolled Community Health Nurses students in September 2014. KMTC Kapenguria campus became the first KMTC Campus in Kenya to be built and equipped by the county government. President Uhuru Kenyatta officially opened the campus on 16th April, 2015.

KMTC Kapenguria Campus Facilities
The facilities available in this institution are;
- An Administration block that consists of the Principal’s office, 8 modern offices and a boardroom
- A fully equipped skilled lab
- A computer lab with internet connectivity
- Well-equipped hostels with adequate water supply to offer on-campus accommodation
- 6 classrooms in the tuition block
- A modern and well-equipped library
- Ongoing works such as the construction of a computer and nutrition lab.
KMTC Kapenguria Campus Clinical Experience sites
There is a total of 83 functional health facilities in West Pokot County as a whole. These are one county referral hospital, 3 sub county hospitals and several health centers in each sub county. The major clinical experience sites used by the students are;
- Kapenguria Teaching and Referral Hospital
- Kabichbich Health Center
- Turwell Health Center
- Ortum Mission Hospital
- Sigor Sub County Hospital
- Chepareria Sub County Hospital
- Kacheliba Sub County Hospital
The following hospitals are used for external experience;
- Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for psychiatric experience, ICU and other major experiences
- Kitale County Hospital
- Lodwar County Hospital
