A group of angry Kenyans mostly teacher trainee going by the name Kenya Association of Private/BOM teachers (KAPBT) have listed number of schools that lay off BOM teachers in unprocedural manner.
The group is accusing the administration of those schools for insensitively terminating the contracts of teachers especially during year-end holidays with an ill motive of saving payments for months of November and December.
This is coming barely a month after most schools quickly moved to terminate contracts of BOM teachers in a bid to cut down expenditure cost.
Better pay
The group is advocating for better pay of teachers employed by school’s Board of Management (BOM) and those employed by private schools. The group registered it concern that most school administration pay teacher meager salary. Just peanuts.
“We’re pushing for minimum salaries for all private/BOM teachers to Kshs.15,000/ in primary schools/academies and Kshs.25,000/ in secondary ones! We are in consultations with the Department of Labour (in the national ministry) to address these injustices meted against our brethren beginning January 2019” Read a post that is doing rounds in social media.
The group is further alleging that most teachers appointed internally by school administration go without pay for a period of more than three(3) months.
The seemingly disappointed group, angrily instructed members to avoid institutions that had been mentioned adversely. By the time of doing this write up, the following schools were top in the list:
