After a two-year suspension, school games are making a comeback. After the deadly Covid 19 pandemic in Kenya, the games were halted in March 2020. However, the wait is now over, as the Ministry of Education has released the 2022 school sports calendar.
Co-Curricular Activities are a critical component of the teaching and learning process in ah education systems. It is through these programmed activities that the learner talents are identified, nurtured and developed.
The Ministry of Education in consultation with key stakeholders has now decided that co-curricular activities resume fully in all basic learning Institutions. in term two, 2022, primary and secondary school sports will be activated as well as music. The Kenya Science and Engineering Fair and Drama competitions will be in term one year 2023.
Schools are therefore advised to start training of their teams in preparations for the National championship and other regional and international championships. The activities well be he!d mostly during weekends, mid-terms and school holiday.
This comes after a stakeholders’ meeting that was held earlier this year. The decision for games Resumption was arrived at during the four-day caucus attended by the Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) officials and their counterparts from the Ministry of Education.
Term One Championship has already been completed.
National championship for term two games activities has been scheduled for September 8th to 13th, 2022, in Kapsabet, Rift Valley Region.
The Sub counties and counties must complete their term one games by June 14, 2022, according to the calendar.
